Nestled between 26°22′N–26°21′N latitude and 90°33′E–90°34′E longitude, this enchanting forest spans along the serene banks of the Aie River, just 15 km east of Bongaigaon. Officially declared a Reserved Forest on 29 April 1966, it has long been recognised for its ecological richness and has been under proposal since 1 April 1999 to be upgraded into a wildlife sanctuary under the Aie Valley Forest Division.
What truly sets this forest apart is its population of around 450 endangered Golden Langurs—an exceptionally rare primate found only in this part of Northeast India and listed as a rare species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The forest is also a thriving habitat for a remarkable range of wildlife, including Binturong, Pangolin, Hornbill, Leopard, Porcupine, Python, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Flying Squirrel, Monitor Lizard, Barking Deer, Civets, Mongoose, Jungle Cat, and Wild Cat.
Beyond its wildlife, the forest captivates visitors with its lush diversity of birds and valuable plant life—climbers, shrubs, herbs, and saplings that enrich its vibrant ecosystem. A natural hill spring known as “Kalikapat” flows gently through the forest before nourishing nearby paddy fields, adding to the landscape’s charm. Perched atop one of the hills is an ancient temple dedicated to Shiva, offering both spiritual and scenic appeal.
With its rare wildlife, pristine natural beauty, and tranquil surroundings, this forest is not just a destination—it is an unforgettable experience for nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and explorers seeking something truly extraordinary.
