  • Bongaigaon and its surrounding region in western Assam have a mix of temples, wildlife areas, hills, lakes, and historical sites. Here are some of the most important local attractions for visitors.
  • 1. Bagheswari Temple
  • One of the most famous landmarks in Bongaigaon, this ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Bagheswari stands on Bagheswari Hill inside the town. The complex contains old stone structures and a rock-cut Ganesha believed to date back to the 10th–11th century. The hilltop also offers panoramic views of the town and nearby tea gardens. 
  • 2. Kakoijana Reserved Forest
  • Located about 15 km from Bongaigaon, this forest is famous for the endangered golden langur, one of the rarest primates in the world. The forest is home to many species including hornbills, pangolins, leopard cats, and flying squirrels, making it a major eco-tourism destination. 
  • 3. Jogighopa Rock Cut Caves
  • These ancient caves carved into rock cliffs along the Brahmaputra are among the earliest rock-cut architectural examples in Assam. Scholars believe they were used by monks for meditation during the early medieval period. 
  • 4. Lalmati Duramari Ganesh Temple
  • An archaeological temple complex dedicated to Lord Ganesh located on Khagrapar Hill. The ruins and sculptures are believed to date back several centuries and represent early Hindu rock-cut architecture in Assam. 
  • 5. Koya Kujia Beel
  • A scenic lake with small islands and rich vegetation. It has been developed as an eco-tourism park and is popular for boating, picnics, and birdwatching. 
  • 6. Tamranga Beel
  • This large wetland is known as a paradise for bird watchers, especially during winter when migratory birds arrive. It is a peaceful natural site popular among photographers and nature lovers. 
  • 7. Nakkati Hills
  • A hill formation located near Bongaigaon known for its distinctive “cut-nose” shape. It is a popular picnic spot and trekking destination offering views of the surrounding countryside. 
  • 8. Naranarayan Setu
  • A major double-deck bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Bongaigaon with Goalpara. Besides being a key transport link, it is also an impressive engineering landmark and a scenic spot along the river. 
  • 9. Birjhora Tea Estate
  • One of the prominent tea gardens around the town. Visitors can experience Assam’s tea culture, scenic plantations, and peaceful countryside landscapes.
